As part of World Space Week celebrations, Space Expo was held at Kochi to create awareness among the student community about the advancements made by India in space research. PiSat team members from PES University displayed a life size model of the PiSat, a sample of the solar cell, a sample of the magnetic torque rod, samples of the 4-pi sun sensor, and a sample of the battery used.
Based on the level of understanding and curiosity of the listeners, the team explained the working and functionality of PiSat to different depths. Some of the noted scientists and members of VSSC/ISRO who visited the stall were Dr. K Radhakrinshnan, Chairman, ISRO; Dr. V. Uma Maheswara Rao, Director of Missions, GSLV; and Dr. Radhika Ramachandran , SPL, VSSC. The visitors to the stall congratulated us and the college on the successful launch of the satellite. Many of the scientists asked us to take up the ISRO test to join their ranks, and commended our efforts. The team got an opportunity to know more about SCRAM/RAM jet engines and their fuel efficiency, and ISRO’s Aditya project to suspend a satellite in the Lagrange point between the sun and the earth in order to study the sun. The team members felt that it was also an enriching experience to interact with scientists from various domains of ISRO, VSSC, and DRDO. The PiSat team at the exhibition included Prof. Shanmugham C N and Inayathulla M, Rakshith Vishwanatha and Ranjith Srinivas.
